Muscular System: This system contains tissues or muscles, which allow for movement.
Functions:
Functions:
- Body Movements: The skeletal muscles contract, which allow for movement.
- Stabilizes Joints: Tendons connect bones to muscles, and are held there tightly by the muscles. The muscles have a minimum amount of contraction, which is essential for the stabilization of joints.
- Posture: The back muscles, abdominal muscles, and vertebral muscles help us stand upright, and maintain good posture.
- Production of Body Heat: When muscles contract heat is created, which is essential for maintaining body temperature.
Cardiac Muscles: This is the muscle that the heart is composed of. Also known as the myocardium. The thick muscles of the heart contract to pump the blood out, and relax to let it back in after it has circulated throughout the body.
Skeletal Muscles: These muscles are also called striated muscles, because they look striped. They are voluntary muscles. This means they won't move unless you tell them to. The Skeletal Muscles help make the musculoskeletal system, which is the combination of your bones and muscles.
